Best Tacos in Charlotte NC, the ultimate excuse for a margarita. Everyone’s favorite late night craaaaving. THESE are my top
picks for Taco Perfection. Who enjoyed Taco Tuesday last night?!
- Paco’s Tacos & Tequila, South Park: This South Park staple is a beacon for those looking for real Texas-rooted Tex-Mex. Try the chile-rubbed brisket taco for a blast of flavor, or try the “tanked up” fish tacos for a lighter but still tasty bite. Start your meal with the Volcano Queso and you’ll be forever ruined for the regular stuff! 6401 Morrison Blvd. #8a, Charlotte, NC 28211
- Bakersfield, Dilworth: If street-style tacos are your jam, Bakersfield is the place to be. Try the huitlacoche taco for a real Mexican experience, or if corn fungus makes you a little wobbly, the pollo diablo will make your taste buds dance and your sweat glands open. 1301 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203
- Sammy’s Pub, Belmont: Yes, tacos at an Irish pub! On Taco Tuesday, you can get overloaded steak, chicken, shrimp or pork tacos for about $2 each that rival anything you’ll find in the area. The pork tacos are a special hit, slow-braised and topped with excellent salsa and crema. 25 S. Main St., Belmont, NC 28012
- Miguel’s, Airport area: The parking lot at this hole-in-the-wall place is always full of cabs and cop cars, so you know the food is great and cheap. The al pastor taco is an absolute must, and the chile Colorado with corn tortillas is a flavor you don’t get very often in these parts. 4252 Business Center Dr., Charlotte, NC 28214
- Taqueria Mexico, Starmount: This place bills itself as Charlotte’s first real taqueria, and you’re free to argue about that while I tuck into some barbacoa tacos. Most tacos here are in the $2 range, so be sure to try the lengua (beef tongue, trust me) or, if you’re feeling adventurous, try the cabeza taco for possibly the most authentic Mexican experience in Charlotte. 7001 South Blvd. #4398, Charlotte, NC 28217
- Sabor Latin Street Grill, Uptown: There’s a reason why you sometimes have to elbow your way in here: The food is outstanding. The crispy pork belly taco will provoke you to gluttony, and the black bean taco gives you all the flavor without the meat. My personal favorite is the chorizo, which manages to be rich without the greasiness sometimes found in that sausage. 300 N. College St., Charlotte, NC 28202
- Azteca, Gastonia: This family-owned place with several locations in the area turns out bountiful plates of Tex-Mex and Mexican favorites. The tacos al carbon have tender, perfectly grilled steak with a smoky hit, or if you’re in the mood for breakfast for dinner, get the chorizo con huevos with corn tortillas. 1863 W. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia NC 28052
- Three Amigos, Plaza Midwood: This place is still off the radar for a lot of people, but that won’t last long! Try the old-fashioned American ground beef taco for a trip back to your childhood … that actually has amazing flavor in this instance! 2917 Central Ave. A, Charlotte, NC 28205
- Las Lupitas, University: Not only can you get some amazing tacos here (try the barbacoa and you’ll be transported to paradise), but you can get all the fixings for your own taco feast at home. It’s your taco fiesta at a super-reasonable price in one easy location! 5210 N. Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28213
- Tacos El Nevado, South End: This place doesn’t have any exotic or highly garnished tacos. It’s just got your classic asada, barbacoa, pollo and the rest done incredibly right for a price that will leave your wallet happy. The tortillas here are some of the freshest in town! 4640 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28209
