What is a bodega? Basically, it’s a small convenience store. According to streeteasy.com, “The name bodega originates from the Spanish word, which can mean “storeroom,” “wine cellar,” or “grocery store,” because these shops first started popping up in the 1940s and ’50s in Hispanic communities.” While the Noda area is not specifically known as a Hispanic community, it DOES boast some excellent diversity and a creative vibe and spirit.
I’ve been to Noda Bodega a few times before… It’s quickly become a favorite! I love this place so much because it’s funky, laid back, has an awesome back patio and they have the BEST avocado toast on the planet. I get mine fully loaded with pickled onions, bacon, and campari tomatoes. They have a terrific offering of sandwiches and soups or chili, as well as a cooler of cold beverages and giant carafes of coffee for your consumption. Bear in mind, this isn’t a frou-frou coffee shop with multitudes of specialty drinks. But if you’re looking for a relaxed, casual atmosphere and a hip location nestled between Noda and the Plaza area, this is the place for you! Have you been? Give them a try!
